Copper alloy valve has good corrosion resistance to water, sea water, salt solution and organic matter. It has good corrosion resistance to sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid and dilute hydrochloric acid without oxygen or oxidant, and has good resistance to alkali. However, it is not resistant to the corrosion of oxidizing acids such as nitric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, and sulfur and sulfide. Avoid contact with ammonia, which can cause stress corrosion cracking of copper and copper alloy. It should be noted that the corrosion resistance of copper alloy varies with the grade of copper alloy.
In order to improve the properties of copper, other elements, such as aluminum, nickel, manganese, tin, silicon and lead, are often added. Aluminum can improve the strength, hardness and corrosion resistance of copper, but reduce its plasticity. It is suitable for use as condensing tube and other corrosion-resistant parts of sea going ships. Tin can improve the strength and corrosion resistance of brass to sea water, and can be used as ship thermal equipment and propeller. Lead improves the machinability of copper; copper alloy castings are commonly used to make valves and pipe fittings.
